My Opinion About PenthouseLetters

"Dear Penthouse, I never thought something like this could happen to me, but..." Raise your hand if this is the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of erotic stories. After almost 40 years of providing generations of young adults with relentless stimulation for what is said to be the most sensual organ in the human body, Penthouse Letters are an institution. With this site, Penthouse promises to take it a step farther and bring those letters to life.

Penthouse Letters is part of the Penthouse Suite that includes full access to, and Having visited some of those sites before, it's easy to see you're not getting a bad deal here - not bad at all. The layout of the site is very basic and with a look and feel that makes me think of the (thankfully) bygone days of dial-up connections, and even if organization is good enough on paper, it doesn't look like it has been maintained very well more recently.

Content is posted in monthly "Issues" very similar to the magazines you can buy on the stands, complete with covers. Browsing the issues archive, you can see a total of 127 of them, each with up to 30 or so letters and stories. Browsing through the homepage and letter indexes shows that new content continues to be added at a rate of 12 or 13 editions a year. That means that in reality we have access to a collection of around 160 editions stretching back to 1974 - a total amount of letters and stories that could be somewhere between three and four thousand.

Most, if not all, of the letters were also featured in the actual printed magazine version of Penthouse Letters, and are organized in so many categories that you're sure to find the specific fantasy that turns you on: Black Does White, Booty Time, Calendar Girls, Clusterfucks, Domination, Different Strokes, Fantastic Voyage, Flying Solo, Gang Bangs, Girl Meets Girl, Kinky Cougars, Losing It, Midnight Special, Most Unforgettable Lay, Sloppy Seconds, Someone's Watching, Swinging and Swapping, True Confessions, True Romance and Wives Gone Wild are some of the colourful and self-explanatory names of the categories.

Stories tend to be longer and more elaborate, professionally-written pieces, and are split into Book Bonus, Calendar Girls, Communiqu, Feature, Fiction and St. James Place (which includes a huge selection of stories written exclusively by American author James Dawson).

What about those photos and videos that we had been promised on the tour pages before signing up? You know, the ones that were supposed to bring these letters and stories to life? Unfortunately, when you try to navigate to the photo galleries and movies, you're prompted to switch on over to, which is indeed filled to the brim with photos and videos, but unconnected to the letters.

Final Verdict, which you can access from inside Penthouse Letters, does offer you the possibility of purchasing many, many DVDs from their "Letters" series. That's an extra charge, however, and there's no guarantee you'll see that one letter that really captured your imagination brought to life. That's a disappointment, but it doesn't take anything away from the quality of the stories, and if you're a fan of those true stories, PenthouseLetters will provide you endless hours of constant arousal. Paraphrasing Rodney Carrington's classic "Dear Penthouse", when you see the most recent issue, you'll take a box of Kleenex and lock your bedroom door.
